Music
PHILOSOPHY
At Hade Edge Junior & Infant School we wish to ensure that each child achieves their full potential in all areas of school life. We believe that music should be enjoyed and that the children should develop a personal appreciation of music. We aim to provide a curriculum which offers children a wide range of musical experiences regardless of ability, ethnicity or gender.
THE AIMS OF MUSIC EDUCATION AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO THE WHOLE CURRICULUM
In music we aim to:
- develop children's enjoyment of music and music making
- develop children's musical knowledge and understanding;
- develop children's social skills by giving opportunities for children to work individually and in groups of varying sizes;
- develop skills which can be transferred to other curriculum areas (listening, language, maths, personal and social);
- develop children's self-esteem and an awareness of the achievements of others;
- develop an awareness and appreciation of music from differing cultures, traditions and times;
- promote equal opportunities;
- develop the ability to respond to music by expressing feelings and developing and demonstrating imagination;
- to enhance spiritual development (worshipful music);
- develop verbal and non-verbal communication skills;
- to develop and promote community links;
At Hade Edge School the music curriculum is taught by our class teacher in the Early Years and by qualified peripatetic music teachers from Kirklees Musica in Years 1-6.
There is a 2-year rolling programme in place for the tuition of music which ensures that we have a broad and balanced curriculum in line with National Curriculum requirements. Children in Years 1 -6 learn a musical instrument for the duration of 1 year.
