Music
Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.
We use a fantastic scheme called Charanga which allows the children to develop their listening skills; appraise different genres of music and perform using their voice and other various instruments.
Having close links with Hade Edge band, it has enabled the children to benefit from their expertise and many children have joined their brass band and are enjoying learning a brass instrument. Year 6 have loved practising and performing at Young Voices each year- what an experience! This year is the turn of year 3/4 to perform in the Mrs Sunderland music festival - How exciting!
Music is everywhere around school. We have a composer of the month which covers a range of different genres, genders and nationalities. We also enjoy singing assembly once a week- which incorporates our skill of the month song. Each year ,Wonderful Wolves perform to parents; their class production, Marvellous Meerkats and Terrific Tigers help us celebrate the joys of Christmas by performing their plays in December. To finish off, the Excellent Eagles perform their end of year showpiece.
