Assessment at Hade Edge School

Early Years Foundation Stage

Within Nursery and Reception, staff use the non-statutory documents "Birth to 5 Matters" and "Development Matters" to help staff track progress and plan developmentally appropriate activities.

Half termly, the staff in our Terrific Tigers Class (EYFS unit) meet to discuss each child in detail and to track and monitor the development to date. In addition, staff talk informally on a day to day basis to highlight any concerns or issues that might have arisen. This means that support can be provided immediately.

At the end of the reception year, pupils are assessed against the Early Learning Goals.

Year 1- Year 6

Staff in Years 1-6 use formative (daily) assessment to help them plan appropriately sequenced lessons across the curriculum. Misconceptions within classes are quickly acknowledged and addressed.

Half Termly formative assessments are undertaken in reading, writing and maths and data generated informs teacher assessments. The progress and attainment of all pupils is then used to inform intervention groups throughout school.
